Scapegoating
Today is the man who died was the scapegoat for all the true story Tangentopoli which, although commendable, was carried out using methods from the far-west Union member Tonino Di Pietro .
Dead Severino Citaristi , treasurer of the DC
He was 85. He became the symbol of Tangentopoli. The condolence Casini: "An extraordinary man"
BERGAMO - Senator Citaristi Severino, a former administrative secretary of the Christian Democrats, has died at Bergamo. He was 85. The unanimous sympathy of the political world. The UDC, gathered in Rome for its planning conference has respected a minute of silence. For Casini Citaristi "was an extraordinary man." For years, seriously ill, was hospitalized for about a month in the Hospitals of Bergamo.Citaristi, and then first deputy of the Christian Democratic senator, is remembered as the "record holder" of the warranty information, accumulated during many years of investigations of Hands Clean. Investigations in which, because of the position he held, was involved up to receive all communications about seventy prosecutions and convictions (some definitive) for over 30 years. It suffered only one arrest, under house arrest, and never went to jail because of his increasingly poor health. Men's mild manner and appearance, loved and respected even by opponents, Citaristi has always denied any interest in "receiving" bribes ("I never took a penny for me," "I have never corrupted anybody," repeated) and has always stressed that "all the taking."
WHO WAS - Born in Villongo (Bergamo) in 1921, Citaristi had graduated at the Catholic University in Milan, and during the war had been a member of the Italian Liberation Corps. Member of the DC since 1947, Deputies had been continuously until 1987, before being elected to the Senate with over 74 000 votes (and re-elected in '92). The previous year, 1986, had become "treasures" of the Christian Democrats, charging that he would end up in dozens of investigations for corruption and partiti.La illegal financing of the first information assurance came to him, the prosecutor in Milan, May 12, 1992, for having received the sum of 700 million from an entrepreneur. Others followed, with dozens of different proxies for a variety of investigations including some of the most significant Clean Hands: Enel, Cariplo, Eni-Sai and others. Citaristi was also arrested, 15 June '94, under investigation for bribes paid by manufacturers Caltagirone brothers for contracts for the construction of one of the towers at the Fair-Hatch. The senator, who was already accused of serious health problems, was immediately placed under house arrest and released after 8 days.
Citaristi was shot in '98 from serious loss in the family: a tragedy in aviation in Colombia killed her daughter Silvia, 39, and his nephew. The following year he was to tell Bruno Vespa to have accumulated so far convicted 30 years in prison (16 final), and over 8 billion in fines. "I have always admitted the illegal financing of the Christian Democrats - told Citaristi - but most of the convictions I recognized the corruption in competition with public officials unknown. They have not found one, because I've never bribed anyone. "
